UIA-HYP CUP 2026 International Student Competition in Architectural Design

  • Organizer: Internationally supported by the International Union of Architects(UIA); hosted by the School of Architecture, Tianjin University, the School of Architecture, Inner Mongolia University of Technology, and Urban Environment Design(UED)Magazine; exclusive naming sponsor: HYP-ARCH DESIGN.

  • Submission Category: One single architectural design competition, with no separate category tracks. Theme: Architecture in Transformation; topic: “How to Dwell: City, Suburb and Countryside”. Entrants are asked to propose a design responding to community or village-like living in urban, suburban, or rural contexts.
  • Eligibility: Open to architecture and related-major students from universities worldwide, including full-time undergraduates, master’s students, full-time PhD students, and students graduating in 2026. Individual or team entries are accepted; each team may have up to 4 members and up to 2 academic advisors.
  • Entry Fee: Domestic group: RMB 200 per team, non-refundable. The 2026 official Chinese rules do not clearly state the international-group fee; international teams should confirm through the live registration/payment channel.
  • Awards & Benefits: 1st Prize: 1 team, certificate + RMB 80,000; 2nd Prize: 5 teams, certificate + RMB 15,000 each; 3rd Prize: 12 teams, certificate + RMB 8,000 each; several Honorable Mentions with certificates. Advisors of winning projects also receive certificates.
  • Core Introduction: Founded in 2012, the UIA-HYP Cup is an annual international architectural design competition for students. The 2026 edition, chaired by Philip Cox, invites students to rethink the relationship between architecture, community, and belonging across city, suburb, and countryside, with attention to sustainable living, local identity, social interaction, and new forms of self-sufficient communities.
