Core Introduction
The Kuala Lumpur Photography Award Autoportrait 2025 is the second edition following last year's successful open call, encouraging photographers to push beyond traditional self-portraiture through unconventional techniques and materials to explore identity, emotion, and the self . The award welcomes diverse methods using analogue or digital techniques but does not allow AI-generated images . A special panel of selectors will evaluate entries based on uniqueness, process, and narrative strength as standalone artistic studies . Initiated in 2009 by director Steven Lee, KLPA has become an important award in the photography calendar, particularly supporting contemporary portraiture practice in Southeast Asia .
