Competition Category

Art (original 2-dimensional pieces of artwork created by hand, such as a painting or a drawing) .

Work will be judged in two categories based on age:

  • Students 11-14 years old
  • Students 15-19 years old

Eligibility

Students (open to all students 11-19 years old enrolled in primary or secondary school, or the home school equivalent. College and university students are not eligible.)

Prizes/Awards

1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes are awarded for each of the two age categories:

  • 1st Place: $500 scholarship
  • 2nd Place: $350 scholarship
  • 3rd Place: $200 scholarship
  • People’s Choice Award: Winners in each age group receive a $50 scholarship .

Core Introduction The Science Without Borders® Challenge is an international contest that engages students and teachers in ocean conservation through art . The 2026 theme is “Microscopic Marine Life” . To apply, students should submit artwork that highlights the positive impact of microscopic marine organisms, such as phytoplankton, zooplankton, and bacteria, showing how these organisms contribute to ocean ecosystems, support marine life, or impact the health of the planet .
