Core Introduction
The Next House: USA Architecture Competition invites architects, designers, and thinkers worldwide to reimagine the American suburban home prototype . Aiming to redefine the cultural symbol of the American suburban home that has represented excess, isolation, and environmental strain for over half a century, the competition seeks to transform it into intelligent housing adapted to climate urgency, economic pressure, and shifting social values . Participants are tasked with designing a home prototype for a standard household of two adults and one child with a maximum size of 1,500 sq ft (≈140 m²), conceived as replicable across the diverse climates and contexts of the United States . The competition emphasizes adaptability, sustainability, affordability, and the ability to nurture both family and community life over size and spectacle .
