Prizes/Awards

Three winners (one per category) each receive US$5,000 and are invited to exhibit at Xposure in Sharjah, UAE, where their work is presented to an international audience of photographers, editors, industry professionals, and the public.

Core Introduction

The Xposure Independent & Freelance Photojournalist Award (IFPA) recognises outstanding independent and freelance photojournalists across three categories: Spot News, Environment, and Solutions. Submissions must demonstrate journalistic integrity, visual strength, and meaningful engagement with contemporary issues. Photojournalism demands strict ethical standards—images must present an accurate and honest account of events without manipulation, alteration, or distortion; integrity and impartiality are fundamental. Entrants may submit one 12-image essay per category addressing urgent, underreported, or impactful global issues. The award supports photographers working independently or on a freelance basis and gives significant photojournalistic projects greater international visibility, amplifying visual storytelling that informs, challenges, and resonates worldwide.
